How we understand elections

Join us for a values‑focused conversation about how we understand elections. How we talk about elections often jumps straight to facts, policies, or headlines—but underneath every reaction is a set of values that shape how we see the world. This gathering offers a different kind of conversation: one that starts with our honest first impressions and leads us toward the deeper principles that guide us. Together, we’ll explore our initial reactions to a current elections bill and the Braver Angels Trustworthy Elections Report—not to debate them, but to notice what those reactions reveal about what matters to us. From there, we’ll work with a shared list of values, reflect on how they influence our views, and listen to the values that guide others in the room. Through small‑group conversations and a guided perspective‑taking exercise, participants will practice seeing the human side of differing viewpoints and learn how values can make disagreement more navigable and more grounded in trust. This event is open to anyone—whether you follow elections closely or tend to tune them out. All you need is curiosity and a willingness to reflect.
